I’m Going (Want) To Write A Book

Writing in WordPress

I’ve wanted to write a book for a long time, but I’m still no closer to actually doing it. Before anybody writes a book, they should have a pretty clear goal. I don’t have a goal or even an idea. So, writing a book at this point would be a waste of time.

That doesn’t mean I could never or should never write a book, though. Eventually I’ll figure things out and then move towards a goal of either writing a fiction book or writing some sort of professional development book. I just need the idea first.

One step that discouraged me from writing a book was what to do once I wrote it. I can’t just write something, and then it just appears for people to read. It has to be distributed on a platform that lets people read about it and/or purchase it or download it for free.

That discouraging step is no longer, though. I now know exactly how I’ll distribute it. It definitely wasn’t going to be published by anyone because I have nothing to say that is that valuable.

So, how am I planning on distributing my book?

I’m always on the lookout for the next great new piece of software on AppSumo that I could use someday (or now). I found one that I will use some day, but likely not any time soon.

The application that will let me publish my book everywhere digital is PublishDrive. I think the plans are quite generation, even the basic one, because I’m unlikely to even publish one book soon let alone 24 total books. I could never even imagine publishing 96 books, so there’s no reason for me to go that far.

The only thing I’ve done with the software so far is to redeem my purchase. So, I’m no closer to actually writing my book but at least one barrier is removed.

Now if I could only figure out how to remove the idea barrier and then motivation. Those are the two biggest barriers for writing and publishing my first book.

In case you’re interested, here’s what the PublishDrive dashboard looks like.

PublishDrive Dashboard

I’m guessing this is how my PublishDrive dashboard will look for a really long time. I still have no direction, ideas, or anything else. I’m simply writing to declare one of my life goals and also that I’ve removed one of the many barriers I have to writing a book.

Do you have any goals in your lie that are stuck in the back of your head, but you’re no closer to actually acting on?

I guess I should also mention something about the book reviews I’d previously been writing. I stopped back in July, but I’m still reading one personal, one business book. In fact, I’ve surpassed my year goal of 31 books, and it’s still October. I’ve finished 32 books so far and am going to continue increasing that number, so my next year goal will be even higher.

I’m not sure if I’ll continue to write reviews but for now I’m taking a break. It’s a lot of work, and I’m not sure many people even got value out of them. They do get views but other than that, they’re sort of just work for no end purpose.

As for what’s up next for this blog, I’m not sure. Just a random post here and there about what I’m working on or thinking about professionally.

If you’d be interested in a short walkthrough of PublishDrive, let me know, and I’ll definitely make it. Otherwise, I’ll assume no one is interested.
