eLearning Development India: Results of Salary Survey 2009

Upside Learning

I’d been waiting for the results of the Unofficial Salary Survey 2009 after we wrote about it about 6 weeks back. This year the survey got over 100 responses from eLearning professionals in India – up from 54 last year. At such a growth rate this survey has the potential to be a good benchmarking source for Indian eLearning companies. Now that the results are out, here is a quick summary of the key points that emerge and we found interesting: Salary ranges are very wide - For instance, some IDs

Business applications of Twitter

E-Learning Provocateur

Earlier this week, I attended a Twitter Camp billed Twitter is not for dummies. I had the privilege of facilitating one of the breakout sessions, which focused on the business applications of Twitter. We discussed a range of issues around this topic, and we generated some really bright ideas that I feel are worth pursuing in the corporate sector. Some of the ideas specifically relate to e-learning, while others may fall more comfortably into other portfolios.

Presentation Resources

Kapp Notes

Thinking of converting your Slide Presentation from drab to fab (I always wanted to write that.) Well here are some resources that can be of assistance. So, Interactivity by Design is an older book and not specifically geared toward a slide show (it is focused on designing visually appealing e-learning). But it is well written with wonderful examples.

We need them, as it’s becoming increasingly important to get the important skills really nailed, not just ‘addressed’ It’s not about dumping knowledge on someone, or the other myriad ways learning can be badly designed. 50 Years of the Kirkpatrick Model

In the fifty years since, his thoughts (Reaction, Learning, Behavior, and Results) have gone on to evolve into the legendary Kirkpatrick’s Four Level Evaluation Model and become the basis on which learning & development departments can show the value of training to the business. How has the model evolved over fifty years, is it still relevant? As designers of learning, have we applied the model with Don’s intent?

Trends in Learning

Tony Karrer

Someone was just asking me about the big trends in learning and the implications of those trends on corporate learning and development. I initially said - "Look at my blog," but when I looked, I realized it might be a bit harder than I thought to pull out the central themes. So, here's a bit of a compilation of some of the things I've been talking about in my blog which points to some of the major trends in learning.

Consciousness and non-linearity

Clark Quinn

Aaron Silvers (@mrch0mp3rs) wrote a post tying together the non-linear nature of cyberspace with the essentially linear nature of our past. Identifying how new technologies have to establish their own natures is a familiar refrain, but he’s comparing our learning with our new contexts, and essentially questioning the relationship between old methods and new contexts.

Training Must Be Inconsistent!!!

ID Reflections

Consistency in training is one of the advantages of e-learning, we claim, as opposed to a human facilitator who could be tired, irritable, not in the mood, or just not well versed with the subject s/he is conducting the training on. In comparison, once an e-learning program is created, it comes with the following advantages: Easy dissemintation Wide reach Self paced.blah blah blah And CONSISTENT An e-learning program does not have mood swings or give in to frailties of the body.

Facilitating Learning

Clark Quinn

In last night’s #lrnchat on instructional design, there was some discussion of the term ‘learning facilitator’ versus ‘trainer’ (which now I can’t find!?!), and it got me wondering. I’ve also been thinking about a set of talks I may be giving, and how to break them up. There was also a discussion on ITFORUM that expanded to discuss how experts are losing the problem-solving skills and how to develop them.

Nothing beats rave reviews in level one verbatim comments and nothing better than everyone scoring perfection on level two assessments, unfortunately, the real action that matters is manifest downstream from where we earn our accolades. Social Media is a Compound Noun

Social media is not a noun (media) accompanied by an adjective (social). In fact, as long as we think of it that way social media can only fail to achieve what the thought leaders who advocate its use believe it capable of doing. Social media is, in fact, a compound noun. Neither term is sufficent to describe what is done by those using it unless we consider it as part of the other.
