Hiring Differently Isn’t Going to Make a Difference Unless…

Leaders want more creativity and innovation and rightfully they know this starts with having the right people. So they lean on their recruiters to find the candidates they want but fail to adjust their internal systems so that once aboard these progressive people can thrive.

It doesn’t start with the the recruiter’s marching orders. It starts further upstream with management, evaluations and incentive models. What gets rewarded is what gets done! The fact is that your progressive new hire will conform to the system that keeps them employed or they will leave.

What to do?

First, examine the incentive systems you have in place; how do people get recognized/rewarded? Modify this to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and openness. Then be sure the evaluation process conforms to this as managers must know what behaviors to support and encourage. Now you’re in position to overhaul HR’s role. Be sure the orientation and on boarding process is aligned and consistent. Finally you’re ready to find the right candidates.

Systems drive behaviors, behaviors form beliefs, beliefs create your culture.
