3 Reasons to Digitize Corporate Training with a Learning Management System

by Debbie Williams

Classroom training isn’t cutting it for many of today’s employees. It doesn’t fit into their busy schedules or meet their needs. Today’s employees want more flexibility and ownership over their training needs, something traditional classroom training doesn’t provide because it:

  • Often requires travel.
  • Tends to be infrequent due to high costs of hiring instructors and renting classroom spaces.
  • Makes it necessary for employees to keep up with physical learning materials.

For these reasons, companies all over the world are digitizing employee training and seeing great results.

What Do Your Employees Want in a Corporate Training Program?

Modern employees are busier than ever, and they want training to be quick, engaging and convenient. Here are some statistics, provided by HR Dive, about what your workers want in a corporate training program:¹

  • 89% want access to training anytime and anywhere they need to do their job.
  • 85% want to be able to choose training times that fit their schedules.
  • 80% believe frequent/regular training is more important than formal workplace training.

Digitized corporate training meets these standards, helping your employees see training as what it is - a resource built to make them successful at your company.

But that isn’t the only benefit of digitizing employee training. Here are three additional reasons why your company should digitize training using a learning management system (LMS).Digitize Employee Training with a Learning Management System

3 Reasons to Digitize Employee Training with a Learning Management System

  1. It promotes digital literacy -- Digital literacy is critical for success in the workplace. Despite this, how many times have you heard someone, no matter the professional’s role or industry, confess that he or she is not good with technology?

Poor digital skills affect workers from every generation, according to CMS wire.² A contributor wrote, “A Capgemini study found 47 percent of senior decision makers do not believe younger workers know how to use digital tools for work purposes.” This can hinder productivity.

Implementing a learning management system is one step employers can take toward promoting digital literacy within their company. eLearning increases digital literacy skills by mandating employees to interact with gamified learning, use online resources, solve problems and interact with peers with online tools, participate in simulations, and more.³

  1. It reduces business expenses for employee onboarding -- The length of onboarding programs vary from company to company. For some, it takes a couple months, for others, several months to a year. No matter how long a company chooses to onboard new hires, making onboarding digital via an LMS can shorten the process.

A company in the UK did just that. By migrating from classroom training to digitized training, they reduced new starter onboarding from 33 days to 18 days, according to Assima.4 Also, the company’s onboarding programs were delivered with 80 percent fewer staff with digitized training as opposed to traditional, in-person training.

A shorter onboarding program requiring the participation of less staff cuts coss for your business. This adds to the list of benefits of digitizing your corporate training program.

  1. It increases engagement and productivity -- When employee training is delivered digitally, through a learning management system, worker productivity improves. In fact, “46 percent (of company leaders) consider that the biggest single productivity improvement for most of their business processes is to remove the paper,” stated AIIM, the Global Community of Information Professionals.5

Employee engagement and productivity go hand in hand, with increased engagement usually resulting in higher productivity. According to eLearning Industry, greater workforce engagement and productivity are the fruits of digitized instructor-led training. 6

When employees have the digital skills they need to do their jobs well, productivity will rise.
