Digital Instructional Media Design 101 – Designing for Flow

Upside Learning

When was the last time you were so involved in what you were doing that you forgot yourself? You lost track of time? You were ‘in the zone’? All of us can recall such moments – while reading a book, listening to music, playing a sport, in an online computer game. But I wonder how many of us have felt this during an online course, or inside a classroom when being taught?

Tony Karrer

I’ve been recently working on lots of eLearning strategy consulting engagements and one of my colleagues asked me to provide a set of resources around this topic. I went back and looked at what I had written before on eLearning Strategy and saw that I had said at the time: I've spent several hours this morning trying to find good resources on eLearning Strategy development and particularly looking for examples to use in this post.

Sleepwalkers – the emerging landscape of organisational learning

Performance Learning Productivity

Arthur Koestler’s masterpiece ‘The Sleepwalkers: A History of Man’s Changing Vision of the Universe’ is a book that I have re-read every 10 years or so, and have regularly given to young people – usually for 18th or 21st birthdays – in the probably mistaken belief that it will help them understand their world a little better. Together with Joseph Conrad, Koestler is one of those rare people.

The Melbourne Cup: it’s not about the horses!

I was invited to a Melbourne Cup business lunch today. (Thanks C.S., that was very generous!). In Australia the Melbourne Cup is affectionately known as “the race that stops a nation&#. Audio for eLearning: The First Steps

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Rick Zanotti One of the key elements in multimedia and eLearning development is sound. Without it, the content is bland, boring and often forgotten. If you're not using audio in your eLearning you are losing more than half your audience, and that is never a good thing. If you think audio is too expensive to use, think again! The first step to consider is whether you do your own audio or hire a voice talent to do it for you.

Review: Gary Woodill’s The Mobile Learning Edge

Clark Quinn

In the context of having my own book on mobile learning in press, I’m well-primed to review Gary Woodill’s The Mobile Learning Edge: Tools and Technologies for Developing Your Teams. It could be awkward as well, as I could be considered to be a competitor, with no vested interest in helping. So, accept the potential for bias, but I feel, fortunately, this is not a problem.

How can we know what is learned informally and what difference that learning makes to the success of an organization? Some of the methods being used in informal science education could be applied more broadly to informal and online learning in business, nonprofit, and government settings.

HTML5 and Flash: Two Ways to Create Interactivity in Mobile Learning

Adobe Captivate 5: Control the Volume of Background Audio
