No pain, more gain? Research supports "less learning more often"

PowerPoint 2010: Using the Shape Union Tool

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by AJ George. Two of the coolest new tools in PowerPoint 2010 (especially if you like to make your own graphics) are the Shape Union and Shape Subtract tools. Previously in PowerPoint, if you wanted to join two shapes you would use the Group tool. The issue with grouping shapes was that if you then decided to add certain formatting options to the shape, grouping would add it to each individually element of the shape rather than to the new shape as a whole.

Another Tablet Computer – Blackberry Playbook

Upside Learning

It’s been in the rumor mill for some months and was confirmed by Blackberry only recently. Now, they’ve gone ahead officially revealed the product and begun the marketing blitz. While it’s still early to say, this tablet seems a marked improvement over the iPad (which we were quite disappointed with). The Playbook comes with a camera, a fast processor that enables true multitasking and a fully featured browser.

Are we taking into account the culture surrounding our students?

Kapp Notes

Historical periods are often named for the influence of technology on the period. The Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Industrial Revolution and Information Age are all closely related to the influence of a particular technology or group of technologies had on livelihood, people and governments during that period in history. As technology evolves and changes over time, a culture will either change with the technology or disappear or, in some rare cases, the culture will shun the technology and r

E-Learning Provocateur

What’s your role in the workplace? How does that compare to what you do on a day-to-day basis? I ask you this because what we think we should be doing and what we actually find ourselves doing are often two very different things. That concerns me because I’ve been blogging a lot about a revamped learning model which relies heavily on Web 2.0 technologies to support informal learning.

What to Wear to a Virtual World Job Interview

Kapp Notes

Perhaps a little too over the top for a job interview. You have probably been wondering what you should wear in case you ever went on a virtual world job interview. I know its been keeping me awake at night. 27 Books for L&D Folks.

ID Reflections

I have listed down a few books that have shaped my thinking over the last one year. I believe they are all very essential reads for today’s learning and development folks. They are not predominantly directly related to learning or instructional design or theory (except for one or two); however, they all helped me to see the larger picture, to understand where workplace learning and training fits in, and why and where change is needed.

by Kevin Siegel.   You're in the middle of recording a Captivate simulation. It's a fairly complex series of steps that you're recording and now would be a really bad time to stop. If you do stop the recording process, you'll likely need to spend the time to undo everything you recorded (which could be a painful process) and re-record the lesson from the beginning.   The unthinkable happens.

Iterative Development Processes Don’t Always Work!

Web Courseworks

Of course it’s very trendy to proclaim our eLearning departments utilize an iterative process for developing eCourses or simulations. Prescribing to an Agile development process is all the rage. For the most part, these processes generally do work. In fact, if done right, an Agile software development process is user centric and encourages innovation through good team member collaboration and increased learning transactions amongst stakeholders.
