Understanding Learning Styles Research

Experiencing eLearning

Too many people have been talking about learning styles research lately for me to try to cite them all here. Many have commented on the Learning Styles Don’t Exist video, for example. Via Karyn Romeis and Stephen Downes , I found two lengthy reviews of learning styles research: Learning styles and pedagogy in post-16 learning. Should we be using learning styles?

I’ve been working with Steve Wexler and the eLearningGuild on the eLearning 2.0 survey. This is resulting in some pretty interesting data such as the Web 2.0 Tools Used in corporations. One of the comments I received on Network Effects - YouTube - Video Blogs and More that had a video hosted on YouTube was: We see and hear more and more about corporate content published on YouTube.

Training for Mixed Messages

Kapp Notes

Many times, training or learning events are seen by executives or management as a cure for something that cannot be "fixed" by mere training or learning events. For example, ethics, diversity and compliance training in response to specific and repeated incidents cannot and will not be effective if a support structure is not in place to ensure that after the training is over, the employees have incentive to be in compliance, act ethically or value diversity.

ZaidLearn: Amazing Free e-Learning eBooks Collection. Like the title says, a collection of free ebooks about e-learning. I’m not sure I’d call everything here an actual “ebook&# (like Jane Hart’s list of Top 100 Tools), but it’s certainly a lot of reading material. I just wish this was more than a list of links. Annotations or even tags would make it much easier to figure out what’s useful for a specific purpose.

To-Learn Lists

The Learning Circuits

This month's question comes out of something that Catherine Lombardozzi wrote pointed me to: Jim Collins, in an essay in Learning Journeys , wrote, “A true learning person also has a “to-learn” list, and the items on that list carry at least as much weight in how one organizes his or her time as the to-do list.” Thus, for September we are exploring: To-Learn Lists I personally, do not have a formal to-learn list.

The Lite goes on

I wrote yesterday that I had submitted a poem about the divide between the generations as a part of the workshop on the digital divide at ALT-C next week. Well isn't life interesting? My poem features the infamous Nintendo DS Lite. There is also a quip about Brain Training software. My son has a Nintendo DS. Both my daughters have one each (one is actually a lurid pink - the DS not my daughter).

If anyone's unlucky enough to bump into me in a week's time, expect a yodelling demonstration.
