One more for the constructivist

Moodle Journal

For those of you who have been following this blog, you will recall that last academic year 05/06 I ran a trial with my HND Computer Systems Engineering students where I used the VLE to investigate the delivery of about 20% of the course material based around the Social Constructivist model. The particular framework that I chose for this was the ‘Community of Enquiry’ from Garrison, Anderson and Archer.

So Far to Go: A Local School Board Candidate Armed with Mis-Information

Kapp Notes

I live in central Pennsylvania so I guess this is to be expected but.please. Our school board was approving its budget for the next year and there was a line item of $327,000 for the purchasing of nine mobile laptop labs each having close to 30 computers. The district officials said: the investment is justified as more class materials are becoming available on computer software and more students can access laptops at one time, rather than sending classes to desktop computer labs with limited num

Leading a Horse to a Fire Hose.

Tony Karrer

From a post - Professional Cat Herder - In my line of work, corporate training, I have seen this first hand several times. Management scratching their heads because people aren't taking advantage of the resources that are available. We have all heard the saying, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.” We just haven't done a good job of telling the horse that it is hot and drinking now will prevent thirst in the immediate future.

eLearning 2.0 - An Immediate, Important Shift

I just finished reading a blog post on Read/Write Web - eLearning 2.0 - All You Need to Know. Normally, I find the content on R/WW to be pretty good, but this time, it left me a bit flat. I'm a big believer in eLearning 2.0 and it's interesting to R/WW's take on eLearning 2.0. But the title - "everything you need to know" was a particularly bad choice of words.

Blogging Gordon

A warm welcome and very best wishes to Gordon Brown, the UK's new Prime Minister. Although this blog is not the right place to express my political opinions, I must confess to having warm feelings for Gordon. He might be a bit dour on the surface, but he's actually got a fair sense of humour, as I experienced when I saw him speak at the Brighton Festival in May of this year.
