The Parable of the Monkeys

E-Learning Provocateur

I was pondering the notions of innovation and adaptability the other day – nerd alert! – when I remembered the Parable of the Monkeys. I’m not sure who invented this parable. I don’t think it’s a true story; at least I hope not (poor monkeys). Perhaps it’s a corruption of an ancient fable? If you can shed any light on it, please let me know.

Upside’s Learning Design Philosophy

Upside Learning

Learning design is not just a science, it is an art. When the team works and generates effective learning designs, they are a result of a deep rooted instructional design philosophy. We like to look at instructional design in two clear veins, the first is the philosophy of learning design – the beliefs and faith in models that underly everything we do in design.

Close to the Edge: The Radicalization of Training

Living in Learning

As I reflect on this title, I can imagine some rather extreme images springing forth in the minds of long-time training purists. I say this with confidence because the topic of facilitating learning at the edges of the ecosystem has freaked out both platform trainers and instructional design professionals before. Yeah, and yours truly was that source of disruption.

I have been leaving out periods (but using commas and ellipsis), but our Editor mentioned that the text in caption boxes should always have periods at the end since the sentences are complete.

Game Levels and Scaffolding–They’re Related

Kapp Notes

Mission-based levels serve several purposes within the design of a game. One purpose is to keep the game space manageable. Early level.simple and easy.but wait, it gets harder. Developing a game in which a player wanders through one vast level accomplishing hundreds of objectives and interacting with dozens of non-player characters is a daunting programming task and is intimidating for the player.

In talking about the 4C’s of Mobile , the last one I usually mention is ‘communicate’ Communicate isn’t last because it’s least, but instead because it leads us furthest afield, into the areas of social learning, which has many ramifications in many ways: organizationally, cognitively, culturally, and more. However, it is of importance for mobile in terms of thinking about how and when to take advantage of it.

In 1998/1999 I followed a change management course. To aid us in the individual learning process they formed inter vision groups. After the course finished we merged two inter vision groups into one and started with seven people.

Rules and Instructional Games

Kapp Notes

At its simplest form, a game is just a set of defined rules. There are rules indicating the maximum number of players who can play a game, rules describing how to score points, rules indicating what is allowed in the game and, in the case of digital games, rules that apply to writing the code that makes the video game character jump. Without rules, games would not exist.

By Dean Hawkinson. Adobe Presenter is a great option for creating SCORM-compliant eLearning material for a learning management system (LMS) using PowerPoint. Your course should be engaging and keep the interest of your learners.
