JoAnn discusses possible impacts of Chaos theory on classroom learning using systems, initial effects, bifurcations and fractals. For example, as JoAnn points out, prior knowledge has an acknowledged role in what we learn. From the Found an interesting article after talking with an expert in Chaos theory. You can go beyond this by asking learners to interpret facts, evaluate situations, explain cause and effect, make inferences, and predict results.
For example, this type of question could confuse test-takers: ‘Which of the following comments would NOT be unwelcome in a work situation.’ This is a back-to-basics article about the undervalued and little-discussed multiple choice question. It’s not as exciting as a 3D virtual learning environment, but it might be just as important.

For example at the end of each module you might instruct the learner to ask themselves, “Am I concentrating on the material?” 8221; [i] I really like the idea and can see how this would be an effective way to keep learners engaged in the process. We’ve all been there at some point- trying to painfully complete some online course that is really, just plain awful. I

They had access to first-rate company repositories of best practices, case examples, reusable work products, methodologies and tools, discussion forums and expertise databases. For example, “Great plan” is less validating than is, “The logic of your argument is well sequenced which adds to its face validity”. Tags: Effective Conversation This is an intriguing question because each time we think about contacting someone for help on an issue we face a choice; Do I email, phone, walk down the hall, twitter, text message, post on the community website?

In a blog post while back i mentioned it might be nice to see the training function morph into something more akin to an organizational effectiveness unit in the next ten years. And if you’re going to align processes with the content needed to perform them effectively, you need to know something about the technology that would deliver the content in accordance with job tasks.
Sometimes So i enjoyed a recent post (The Rise of the Chief Performance Officer) by knowledge management leader Tom Davenport where he suggests merging organizational groups that share performance improvement as their mission but come at it from different vantage points and methodologies.

Tips for Effective Webinars By Maria H. Andersen January 21, 2010 Giving an effective webinar requires some presentation redesign and technology skills that you dont necessarily need in a face-to-face presentation. For example, when I give a webinar thats not being recorded, I feel more at ease showing "live" shots of my personal information (like an email inbox or a Facebook page). A great speaker in a face-to-face environment can easily crash and burn in a webinar setting if he or she isnt prepared for the unique challenges and needs of that environment.

I've been thinking about a short commentary by Simon Caulkin in the The Observer last weekend on the power of the placebo effect in the business world. He picked out an interesting example which relates to the world of training and learning:
Consider, Consider, for example, the experiment in an Israeli army boot camp recounted in Bob Sutton's quirky book Weird Ideas That Work. Incoming recruits wer

We often use characters such as experts, learners, wanna-be learners who follow the expert, secondary personae and/or influencer-personae (for example a team member, a client, or a negative character). We lose the opportunity of using them effectively to deliver the message.
Some interesting examples where characters aid the learning process:

I am always asked for samples of companies using Second Life. The example of IBM gives credibility for the use of Second Life, however their story is too “big” for most people to effectively use. Mainly by other eLearning providers trying to build a case to get a little budget towards getting a foothold in Second Life. These individuals are typically eLearning designers, developers, instructional designers, and subject matter experts.

you’re considering including a longer video then make it interactive, for example by pausing it intermittently to ask the learner questions. For example, try using different camera angles to break up long speeches or reinforcing key points by having text appear on screen.
Videos can be a great addition to e-learning packages - but only if they’re used in the right way. Here are Saffron’s top ten tips for making sure videos are adding value to your e-learning rather than just adding megabytes to your course.

The primary reasons for doing the eLearning Tour was that it is hard to see examples of what is being done by fellow eLearning professionals and get a sense of the patterns that exist. And while I believe that I gave a flavor of what's happening out there through the tour, my gut tells me that it would be helpful to capture more examples. So first question – after participating or viewing the videos for the event: Is it helpful to capture examples? As part of pulling together the tour, I asked for contributions from this blog and from Learn Trends. I received
