The Orange County Convention Center is buzzing with energy as the expo formally opened on 18th May 2015 in Orlando. About a whopping 10,000 delegates and attendees rushed to the opening session on “Leading a Global Business”by Andrea Jung who talked about the importance of vision and values and aligning the right people to the right passions and motivations. “If the vision and values are sorted, then it’s all about influence. Leaders today are not about power. Cultivating motivation and engagement is key. And for this, you will need the competence of communication”, she said. Sharing her personal experiences from the company Avon, which she joined 20 years ago, Jung touched upon traits such as reinvention and innovation which are necessary for leadership. She also emphasized the contemporary need to see more women in key executive positions.

In his opening General Session, Tony Bingham made some interesting points while talking about the current era of talent development, which necessarily includes mobile learning and social learning.”What we do every day makes the world work better. Together we are smart. Together we are stronger. And together we are creating a world that works better.By 2020 the workforce will be 75% millenials. And they are digital natives, who expect mobile learning“, he said.

Post the opening and keynote sessions, there were some interesting sessions that kept the audience in awe of the science behind learning. Julie Dirkson talked at length about the Science of Behavior Change, explaining the reasons for natural human tendency to be averse to the “I-must-do” things through an elephant and rider analogy. She shared exclusive tips to bring in real behavioral change using rewards and creating the perception that a certain task is “easy to do”.

World leading expert, Karl Kapp totally owned his session on gamifications he talked about how gamification can improve learning. He highlighted the drawbacks of static learning environments and how gamification instead can be used to boost interactivity and immersion. Citing examples of popular games such as EA and Angry Birds and massive open online multiplayer games in workplaces, Kapp enthralled the audience with his laudable storytelling and gamified techniques to explain gamification per se.He also gave simple yet great game-based ideas for trainers and instructional designers to enhance the learning experience.
