I use diagrams a lot, not only to communicate, but as a tool for my own understanding! I haven’t done much of this, for the simple reason that I don’t have a good animation tool. And, yes, I’m aware that you do motion in PowerPoint and/or Keynote, but I haven’t gotten into it. Time for a skill upgrade!

Yes, you do have to change

The elearning industry, and the broader learning industry, is severely underperforming the potential (and I’m being diplomatic). Tools that make turning Powerpoint presentations into page-turning content aren’t going to fix this, nor are tools that provide prettified drill-and-kill, nor ones that let you host and track courses.

From Content to Experience

I think elearning designers have the same problem: they are given a knowledge dump, and have to somehow transform that into an effective experience. They may even have read the Serious eLearning Manifesto , and want to follow it, but struggle with the transition or transformation. What’s a designer to do?

Stop creating, selling, and buying garbage!

I was thinking today (on my plod around the neighborhood) about how come we’re still seeing so much garbage elearning (and frankly, I had a stronger term in mind). The tools are similarly focused on optimizing the efficiency of translating PDFs and Powerpoints into content with a quiz.
