I have also presented recently at one of Steve Hargardon's live Elluminate global webinars, and have to say that the experience was very similar to the MOOC. Who provides that? The question of open, free of cost participation in a MOOC is a given. Good luck to anyone who decides to set up and deliver a MOOC this side of the Atlantic.

No access to Elluminate. Chat messaging on Elluminate was working OK, but not the best medium for presenting a live talk. I lost Elluminate completely (again). I came in two hours early, tested out the system. The institutional network locked me out. Proxy error or firewall problem. They couldn't resolve it. Maybe semaphore?

Thus, there is real attraction in being able to sign up for hosted services that provide these tools without Corporate IT being involved. Elluminate did not work through several firewalls, so we had to switch to WebEx. For example, in our course, we found that Yahoo Groups were restricted in some corporate environments.

No matter how much prompting we provided, people showed up throughout without headphones, not having done an audio check, or with mediocre net connections. We recorded the sessions directly off the web, i.e. outside of Elluminate. We encountered numerous issues with sound. Recordings are going up now.
