I have read the book from Michael Allen ( and Richard Sites) with a lot of interest and it is a book that I can recommend to read, it does explain the why and the how of the approach and it contains a lot of practical stuff like examples and check list that will help you get started. The book starts with why we need a new approach.

How to support authors that have no experience?

What it comes down to, is that the old way of creating e-Learning (with instructional designers and through the ADDIE process) is way too slow. Instructional design and quality? It is clear that your Subject Matter Experts are no instructional designers. I will give some examples.

Why do searches on e-Learning terms drop dramatically?

Searches on Google on some e-Learning related terms are dropping year by year: searches on Instructional design for example dropped by 80% since 2005. Instructional design. Google trends shows a drop of 80% on searches on Instructional design in the past decade or so. On SCORM the drop is 83%.
