Adobe Captivate: Using Aggregator

I Came, I Saw, I Learned

Once added to an Aggregator project, you can publish the combined files as a SWF, EXE file, PDF or HTML. Looking to learn Captivate? Click here to learn more about that class. by Kevin Siegel. In an ideal world, your Captivate projects would be kept to a respectable number of slides (fewer than approximately 100). Larger projects will take longer to produce, longer to publish, longer for learners to download and, most importantly, longer to complete. If you publish your Captivate projects as SWFs, you can combine multiple SWF files into one lesson using the Aggregator.

Rapid drag and drop authoring

Clive on Learning

These can then be deployed as a simple web offering or as a SCORM object, although in many cases you'll want to integrate the activity into a larger piece of work you are creating in another authoring tool - they provide instructions for Articulate Presenter , eXe and CourseGenie , although I'm sure it can be made to work in many other tools too - perhaps event the Rocket Course Builder :-). Rapid development tools are by definition going to adopt a position towards the 'easy-to-use' end of the scale, even though this usually means compromising on functionality. It has a game-like feel.

RapideL-i

Clive on Learning

I've been taking a look at an early version of RapideL's new online e-learning authoring tool, which they are calling RapideL-i. Although there is an open source option in eXe , it's fair to say that this is more directed at educational users than corporates. I've previously experimented with their desktop tool, RapideL Enhance, which works with Microsoft Word to generate Flash-based courses, but this is a big step forward. would have no hesitation for reaching for one of these tools if I was working on a project alone.

The big question: choosing tools

Clive on Learning

The Learning Circuits Blog Big Question for July is 'how should e-learning developers choose their authoring tools given the proliferation of tools on the market?' If it's an e-learning tutorial that you're after, including the usual mix of multimedia and interactions, then you have to make an important choice, between tools that you install on your desktop and online tools: Desktop tools ( Flash , Authorware , Lectora , etc.) For an open source alternative, try EXE. The answer to the question, of course, is that it depends on what you are trying to create.
