Scientists are finding ways to change the brain through intellectual exercises. People who are socially clumsy can be given exercises that improve their brain’s ability to read nonverbal clues. Its a virtual click-to-learn exercise. Topped it off with a ride in a submarine and an underwater stroll. Whales and dolphins and jelly fish swam by. My favorite station on the NOAA island was the Tsunami area. You click on the Tsunami sign and get the first "page" of the lesson -- how tsunamis are formed underwater.

The focus here the last few months has been less on creating custom courses for clients and more on building Templates and Learning Portals (think LMS-lite). Showed me the site of the chemical spill where the students had done a group exercise. He gave me a firefighters uniform, which I figured out how to put on after a few false starts. When we were done, I took off the uniform and tried to revert to my original appearance.

Of course, we used rubber ducks whenever possible to create some fun graphics and exercises. We created three or four mini-games scattered throughout the course to test concepts. We used a real gunnery instructor to narrate all of the exercises, presentation sequences, and activities. For #3 no media beats a real expert explaining a concept or context. We did this a few years ago with a Marine Corps gun course. Did it sound likea pro narrator? Nope, but it didn't matter. The voice was credible.

Last year, we did a similar exercise at the school -- although this time, I was a teacher taking the test. I came out as a VKA (Visual, Kinesthetic, Auditory). This means that I learn best through my visual channel, next kinesthetic, with audio being my weakest channel.
