One of the interesting points raised via the discussion: If you can get an expert level answer by asking for help through social networks how does that compare to being an expert? I regularly use LinkedIn for Finding Expertise and Searching for Expertise - LinkedIn Answers . I will have conversations with people who are experts in their area and get their answers and even ask them about other answers I'm getting. I've been really enjoying the discussion around Does Deliberative Practice Lead to Quick Proficiency? I just did this to get help

I'm hoping you can help a reader with thoughts and likely help others of us … A medium size nonprofit and lobbying organization is working on a designing and creating a social / work network for experts, students, volunteers who are willing to help through campaigning, lobby, sharing knowledge, working on solutions (writing documents). They currently don't have any kind of solution. I've just spent a good day in a workshop with Jane Hart (of elearning Pick of the Day fame), as the first stage in a programme looking at the whole breadth of social learning systems and approaches.
Jane is a very effective advocate of Elgg , the open source social networking and social publishing platform. She calls it a social-learning platform, and As I came home, I was pondering whether I would use Elgg for this purpose, or whether I'd use Moodle . It's a tricky one, because whichever platform you use, you will be using it for two different purposes:
