I finally succumbed to Facebook

I hadn't intended to sign up with Facebook. I had no idea what to expect from Facebook and, a couple of weeks later, my expectations remain very fuzzy. In this sense I would like Facebook to demonstrate more value than other online communities that I have participated in. I'm not sure whether anyone does. I might enjoy them.

Are Facebook friends real friends?

Facebook users in the UK, a 300% increase on the year. The average Facebook user has 150 friends (suddenly I feel unloved). Looked at in this light, Facebook is alleviating what could be a much worse problem. You can even, as one man related last night, delete all your friends, close your account and commit 'Facebook suicide'.

Questioning social media

Cammy Bean describes how she has been Taking a TechFast to relieve her symptoms of SoMeFat (social media fatigue), which has been "heightened now with the additional disorder of Multiple Social Network Disorder (Facebook, Twitter, and now Google+ to keep up with!)." It's hard enough as it is to keep up with Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

This Facebook version includes a video, slides and a summary of the presentation. More interestingly, dpcloud's Facebook and LinkedIn versions can also incorporate all of those platforms' social media features, allowing the presentation to act as catalyst for an on-going discussion.

Facebook and Twitter are much less important for me professionally, but are part of my overall commitment to engaging with my network.
