HTML5 and SWF
(1)

I have a couple of questions about these formats.

  1. If I publish so that both of these buttons are gray, will my module work in an LMS when Flash is no longer supported?
  2. Which if your current features (e.g., drag and drop) rely on swf?? What’s the easiest way to determine if a Captivate 9 course contains things that require Flash?
  3. We used to import all videos for our modules in the .flv format. Will .flv files work in HTML5 courses?

Thanks!

I don’t know which version of CP9 you use, but after the first version I had problems with publishing both to SWF and HTML, and using the multiscreen.html to launch the course. I decided to drop SWF completely.. Before that workflow would have shown the course in SWF format on desktop/laptop screens (desktop browser) and in HTML on mobiel devices. But the output starts to look rather different. Since I’m just a user, have no idea what happens if the SWF player is disabled in the used browser. Browsers are reigning now in the HTML jungle, they do not support it all the same way, and decide whether Flash player plugin is installed or not by default. My opinion: play it safe, keep to HTML at this moment. Or if you have control over the learners, so that they will stay with old versions of browsers, you could stay with SWF.
In the project menu you find the HTML tracker, that will point to not-supported features. Drag&Drop is perfectly compatible with HTML output. Text animations, SWF’s, and FMR in software simulations are not compatible. Some effects neither.
FLV is flash based, not even available anymore in Adobe’s most recent versions of Adobe Media Encoder. You will need to convert to MP4 with AME. Beware: no transparency as was possible in FLV.
