I recently joined a project that involves designing a series of eLearning games to teach sales skills. The intent is for learners to learn entirely by doing , in the context of a fun game. For me, pondering that question reinforced the brilliance of using game for learning – games address most of the instructional events inherently.

This computer, known as WOPR , plays the game Global Thermonuclear War continuously so that it can learn the best way to win (should the Russians attack). First, games can engage the human brain in a more complex way than other types of training. The game evoked emotions in the characters that effected their judgement.

A few weeks ago, a colleague pointed me to a recent talk, “ 7 Ways Video Games Reward the Brain ,” presented by Tom Chatfield. Chatfield spends the first few minutes establishing the motivational power of video games by citing feats of time and money invested by people for the sake of games. keeps the journey interesting.

These could be simulations, games, or self-paced e-learning modules. Group work done in these break out rooms can be shared with the rest of the class when the breakout sessions have ended. Because it is Flash based, any Flash file can be imported and used in a meeting. This allows the use of more interactive content to engage participants.
