Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice allows children to learn through a head-fake -- they believe they're playing a game, but on the sidelines they're actually writing a program in a modern object oriented language such as Java. Prentice Hall has gone to the extent Yet again, I'm writing a blog-post at the airport! Over the last couple of days I've been part of a very keen set of discussions in the HR space.

So here’s my pitch for not making learning games for students, but rather getting them to make those games for you. It’s Two: They could create a project management game. On the last day of class, students would either present their template to their fellow students, or they would bring their game, and we’d play it.
It’s less work, more fun, and potentially a better learning experience for students. Win, Win, win, win.

Performance targets, rewards and competition can increase the degree of challenge, perhaps through the use of games. Last week I attended a one-day workshop entitled The Science of Learning, which was facilitated by cognitive neuroscientist Dr Itiel Dror of Southampton University. Itiel is becoming a bit of a celebrity amongst the e-learning community in the UK as someone who avoids the grand theories of learning and concentrates instead on practical tips based on what we know about the brain and how it works (assuming we really do and this I must place on trust).
