You might have chat rooms (my system, the one I initially built, and then the one I purchased – GeoLearning), forums, discussion boards, a library (mine did, including checkout capabilities), even classrooms (the appearance of them, I never used it).

I should note that there is one vendor who has their entire mobile platform on a USB jump drive. Extended Enterprise.
