Define a theme for your ILT. Think of adjectives (vibrant, cool, fun, strong) that help define the character of your ILT. Since ILTs are instructor-led, we tend to take the instructional flow for granted. Keep a gap of at least 10 days before the training goes live. | TONY KARRER OCTOBER 14, 2009 Convert ILT to eLearning - Estimating So, the basic question is: We current provide a two day (16 hour) classroom training course for our employees. Conversion Estimation Some resources on the conversion of Instructor-Led Training (ILT) to eLearning / Web-Based Training (WBT) – found through eLearning Learning using Convert ILT as the starting point: In What Training Costs Part I: Converting Content from ILT to WBT , they discuss compression of ILT when its converted to eLearning: Compression ratio : What would the length of the course be if it were online vs. classroom based? | | | | | | | SOCIAL LEARNING BLOG DECEMBER 17, 2012 When is eLearning a Smart Management Decision? I was asked recently to define situations where eLearning is a smart management decision over the same course in an instructor-led training (ILT) format. There When you have a geographically diverse audience and are committed to instructor-led training exclusively, you are stuck with two choices: bring the instructor to the learners or bring the learners to the instructor. | ELEARNING 24-7 FEBRUARY 23, 2012 ILT is turning WBT in2 ILT online – its not working I’m tired of hearing that because people do not have an instructional design background nor training background, it is acceptable to create linear courses online. did not come from a training background. After a period of time, I decided to jump to the corporate level as a training manager. had no training experience, no training background. focused on what makes WBT tick, what is the differences between WBT and ILT. turned to my executive assistant, who knew nothing about training, instructional design and e-learning. . It was ILT. | SOCIAL LEARNING BLOG DECEMBER 17, 2012 When is eLearning a Smart Management Decision? ID is not only about identifying training needs. It may not be training the way you understand it. SPEAK OUT | FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2011 What is the 'Learning' World Coming to? It really does not require so much work This actually means just come train and go and charge us close to nothing. The more trainers I meet, the more convinced I am that the training they deliver is not instructionally sound. The reviewers, the IDs, GDs, VDs, SMEs, stakeholders, learners, trainers (if ILT), organizers and printers (if ILT). had had trainers tell me that we at Kern design really cool ILT sessions. ONEHUNDREDFORTYWORDS | MONDAY, AUGUST 1, 2011 My Transition from Training to Elearning Design Recently, a friend asked me how I transitioned from training to instructional design. 1) Starting as both a test prep trainer and a software trainer, I volunteered for ILT curriculum design projects, which led to blended and elearning. 2) I got a new job managing ILT and elearning projects and grew more interest in doing elearning design and development. 3) I got some formal training and made new connections. ELEARNING BLENDER | THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2009 Telecollaboration and Project Based Training common hit on eLearning is that it does not have the benefits gained through face to face interaction and collaboration with others that ILT can provide. Project based lessons are definitely something I can take back to work as they work well as part of a blended training approach including both instructor led and eLearning solutions. BOTTOM-LINE PERFORMANCE | FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 2010 Converting Instructor-Led Training to E-learning or Distance Learning: Keys to success We receive frequent requests to convert ILT courses to e-learning or distance learning. It’s my job to help the team realize that a clear slide for an ILT course may be very confusing in an online environment. In theory, the e-learning version of the course should be about ½ of the ILT version. recently had a project where we translated a 16 hour ILT course into a 45 minute e-learning course. Since I’m not a programmer by trade, it can be easy to look at an ILT worksheet or activity and say, “Yes, we can translate that into a great online activity by….” MORE >> -
ELEARNING 24-7 | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2011 E-Learning: An Impossible Dream? E-Learning (web based) has been in existence for more than 12 years, yet its impact in terms of the masses is still relatively low in comparison with other training approaches. Yet, when you explore the training space as a whole, e-learning is still being seen as the ugly stepchild to instructional led training. We as training professionals have been brainwashed, due to years of being indudated that ILT (Instructor led training) is the superior and in some corners of the training industry, the best method for learning. ILT. . Brainwashed. MORE >>
