Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Craft distance learning events for college credit that pull together elements of both asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences. Create online learning experiences for use in K-12 classrooms. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple.

Once youve hooked them in, then you can let them know what theyll be able to do afterward, but while if that were done *really* well, I still think its better to hook them in viscerally before you go for the cognitive realization of what theyll learn. Im getting a Masters Degree in Instructional Design. But Ill have the knowledge and the confidence that I know what the hell Im talking about for once. On the other hand I guess you could be speaking metaphorically - Im learning more, and faster, interacting with the blogs than I got in my actual degree! And its free.

With all the research behind online social learning environments and the impact it has on the learner (which I agree with and promote), I always feel that one major piece is still being overlooked and still isnt hasnt become a big part of online learning communities. How much of the pedagogy used by IDs is less to do with learning and more to do with design? And by asking this, Im not suggesting that design isnt important, for it is - its seen by some as part of the pedagogy. Karl, Of course Im trying to bait you!
