Inform learners of the objectives/direction – I always include objectives. Stimulate recall of prior learning – Have an exercise(s) that will assist learners associate the subject with concepts they are already familiar with or link the exercise to prior experience or knowledge. A good example is a simulation.

Here are some of the things I see in 10 years: We will see much more informal learning and knowledge management. There will be a need for trainers and/or knowledge managers who will guide, coach, be a catalyst for, and monitor social media and informal learning. Participants will have much more control of learning events.

FYI, most tweetchats are very informal and about learning, connecting and having fun with people you share something in common. Use as medium to teach and share your own knowledge. Typically, they are fast and fun learning events. Interested, try #lrncht on Thursday nights. Be an active, vocal consumer.

Reality is that needs analyses are often informally conducted. Thus, they have an inside view of seeing the knowledge or skills applied and have a relationship with those applying it.
