We used for example all kinds of information regarding mapping, traffic, speed controls and weather from other companies. I couldn’t find it (books don’t have a Ctrl+F key!), but it is true that we cooperated a lot with other companies and by combining our forces we were able to make greater progress.

I’m a big LinkedIn fan, I take part in groups and discussions, use it as my homepage on the web, network through it, have a premium account et cetera. It’s a graphical representation of your LinkedIn network. You can zoom in and if you click on a dot it presents information on that person. So it works fine.

As any type of informal learning you can’t organize this, but you can facilitate this. You can use social network sites where people create a profile of themselves. You can set up your private corporate network with tools like ELGG. Monitoring the information will give you loads of valuable information.

In stead of working with one or two SME’s, you will have hundreds or thousands through all social media networks, inside and outside your organization. It surprised and impressed me how willing people were to make time for me and to share their knowledge and networks with me. Great networking and a great conference.

There is now software available that gathers information (based on RSS feeds), republishes it and stores it.The great thing about it that if you find an expert on a certain field that does this, you can tap in to his selection of content. And it really is a valuable source of information for me. No, it can’t. Moderation.
