Informal learning refers to the spontaneous, ad-hoc learning most of us engage in every day when we feed our curiosity or explore answers to questions provoked by our environment. It’s cheap.

Seeking is about information coming in, that is, what you’re looking for and the feeds you track. First of all there’s the ‘as needed’ searches for specific information. Here I typically use DuckDuckGo as my search engine, and often end up at Wikipedia. With much experience, I trust it.

We design more information-based courses today than we would care to admit. Agreed, these courses can instead be called web pages, cheat sheets, information dumps, knowledge stores, etc. In case you haven’t heard this term before, here’s the definition of backward design by Wikipedia.) Which brings us to the next point….

First, Open AI used the largest training dataset, combining a database containing much of the internet, a huge library of books, and Wikipedia. Because its training included unvalidated sources like the internet and Wikipedia, some of the content it produces must be corrected. Think of it as a crowd-sourced training effort.

As a result, I grew up learning how to find information the traditional way—in books, magazines, and even microfilm newspapers. But I also learned how to find information on the Internet, and how to measure the credibility of a source early on. Later, we were told “you can use online sources, but not Wikipedia.”
