In ID, instead of 10 events we have ADDIE and the six-step process for success. For ID types, ADDIE is sort of like the "Holy Trinity" although in ADDIE's case there are 5: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Let's take the topic of, say, Instructional designers - IDs. At Macromedia, guess which product most of my co-workers would have named? Did you know that there is no job category for Instructional Designers in the US Labor statistics? There are Instructional Coordinators. Nothing for instructional designers.

It’s only in the past few years that tools have emerged to take advantage of a nonlinear approach and put it within reach of educators, not just programmers (remember Macromedia Director and Toolbook? Tags: e-learning instructional design pachyderm When I was a kid, the whole world was one giant “Learn-O-Rama.” Yikes.)

Stephen Elop was our EVP of the worldwide field organization at Macromedia when I started working in solutions marketing, and my boss, Penny WIlson, was a direct report of Stephen's, so I have my "close to greatness" connections here as well. This was regarding the Macromedia decisions to focus on Flash research. Two parallel thoughts.

Also, UNITAR had a couple months back invested in a rapid e-learning authoring tool called Macromedia Breeze (which today is Adobe Presenter ), which I thought was perfect for this learning adventure. But then I received a great question via a comment: I am a Masters student enrolled in an Instructional Design course with Walden University. Remember End of an Era – Authorware – another Macromedia/Adobe product. lot of it said quite correctly that HTML5 is not there yet. Should I hold off on learning Flash. HTML 5 vs. ???

Macromedia Authorware and similar products. Macromedia Director. The Macromedia set typically would toss in Director, which created an equally impressive array of course capabilities, but a deep learning curve. Eventually, Macromedia Dreamweaver came into the picture. Is it PowerPoint converted to Flash? That was then.
