I was glad to get it, as Google Maps wasn’t allowed to do turn-by-turn on the iPhone. As you might expect, they’re oriented towards Windows, with no information for a Mac user provided, but their website shows how to load music on them. I’ve used it a number of times, and have been very satisfied.

The (Initial) iPad Experience

What I didn’t expect was to get transfixed by a new possibility: that this device could provide a new capability to me, that of a laptop replacement. Given that I already have an iPhone, which would meet immediate email, twitter, and/or web needs when not in WiFi range, I figured I could go with the first one coming out.

While I’ve played with Cardboard on the iPhone (you can find a collection of resources for Cardboard here ), it’s not quite the same as a full VR experience. The conference provided a chance to try out apps for the HTC Vive, Sony Playstation VR, and the Oculus. First, I had a very strong visceral exposure to VR.

Frankly, I haven’t missed Flash on my iPhone or iPad. There will be situations where navigable content isn’t enough, and a company will want to provide interactivity, whether it’s a dynamic user order configuration tool, a diagnostic tool, or a learning simulation. but others won’t.

It’s almost unknown, however, for me to actually win, but that’s actually the case a month or so ago when I put a comment on a blog prior to the MacWorld show, and won a copy of Navigon turn-by-turn navigation software for my iPhone. The conference will both interfere with blogging and provide fodder as well.
