Pausing Issue

Hi there,

I’m running into an issue with a slide auto-advancing now that I have added click boxes to the slide.

The slide is set up with a next button to advance the slide. The Next button becomes visible about 5 seconds into the slide, and has a pause point about 1.5 seconds  before the end of the slide. The click boxes are each set up to both Pause until clicked and continue playing the project when clicked (required to ensure the Next button comes up). I understand that the Pause setting means that when clicked the timeline unpauses, and the Continue Playing setting also means the timeline will continue playing when the button is selected. However, it seems that the Pause on the next button should be stopping the slides from auto-advancing.

I have another slide in the presentation that uses click boxes without this happening – the only difference is those click boxes have advanced actions (although no “pause” setting as part of the action) rather than the “continue playing” setting.

Would appreciate any advice.

thanks,

Emily

Thank you Lieve; I did review, but will look again. Here is a screenshot of the timeline, and I’m using the 2017 release, v10.0.0.192.

I’ve changed the click boxes to buttons to try to have more control. The issue is still that even with the pause points at the end of the button timeline, the Next button (timed to enter after 5 seconds) does not appear. If I change the button setting to “continue playing project”, the Next button appears, but the slide advances automatically if any of the buttons are clicked again.

First of all: you don’t use the most recent version, which is 10.0.1.299. Please install the patch.

Are you sure the Next button is set to be visible in output?

Insert the system variable cpInfoCurrentFrame in a text on that slide, and check if the play head moves on when a click box is clickec. BTW functionality of click box and button is the same, not more control.

Were you able to find and fix the problem? It has been a while since I posted this last comment. Meanwhile I learned that the most recent version of CP2017 is now ends on 299, not 285. Since I no longer have that version, was not aware of a more recent patch, also don’t know what has been fixed or added with that patch.

Maybe you should have a look at my blog post. The pausing point of the Next button has to be later than the pausing point of the click boxes, which is normally at the end of their timelines. I suspect they are occurring later than the pausing point of the Next button.

Can you please insert a screenshot of the timeline, and tell which exact version you are using as can be found under Help, About Captivate.

Did you read my blog post about ‘Pausing Captivate’s Timeline’, part of a long sequence of Timeline posts?
