It removes the need for some old jobs and introduces some new ones. Do learning technologies really threaten l&d jobs? And you can understand why.

CEGOS 2011 survey provides many new insights

It provides some interesting insights but also raises many questions. There's plenty of support for new learning technologies in here, including mobile and serious games, but the priority is still fairly and squarely on learning on-the job and face-to-face. Anyway, I asked and they were happy for me to make it available here.

On the one hand, it frustrates me that the classroom is still the default format for a formal learning intervention, often chosen without regard for its suitability to the job in hand. said that learners provided better feedback when the TAP methodologies were applied by the respondents on their own courses.

So how do employees learn to do their jobs?

They asked employees to identify the activities that had been useful in helping them to do their job better. Surely 'using trial and error' and 'reflecting on your performance' are learning by 'doing your job on a regular basis'. Here's what came back. Isn't 'being shown by others' the same as 'watching and listening to others'?

Insights: Assessment is changing

By and large, employers are not really interested in their employees having knowledge; they want them to be able to fulfil their job responsibilities, and to do that they must be competent. The best way to measure competence is through observation of actual job behaviour, something which most managers do routinely.
