In New Work and New Work Skills , I discuss the fact that most of us have not participated in formal learning since college on foundational knowledge work skills - especially metacognitive skills. Our work skills cannot sit still. Sure they can get along without it.

really was all about new work skills - skills we should be learning. Actually, it's also about the fact that there's not really new work as much as there is new work skills. Work Skills Changing Most of us who used to use these things know somewhat know that they really aren't in use anymore.

I'm very happy to announce that Michele Martin and I have just launched Work Literacy - a network of individuals, companies and organizations who are interested in learning, defining, mentoring, teaching and consulting on the frameworks, skills, methods and tools of modern knowledge work. In fact, we all have blind spots.

Setting up a SharePoint for a community or work team is very different from teaching them about Personal Learning. There's another list of Needed Skills that is a different take and in some ways broader.

Unfortunately, you can ask all you want, you will still be doing a lot of work with LMS products this year. Prediction #10 => Knowledge Worker Skills - Just Beginning in 2008, Big in 2009 The discussion of knowledge work skills is going to be BIG. during 2008. This will increase adoption of Web 2.0 world.

While I agree that many people have developed some savvy with really cool tools, using those tools for learning is a different skill set. Many schools are not teaching new work skills, and many employees are well beyond school and could use some help in developing these skills as well. . The skills ARE different.
