PWLE Not PLE - Knowledge Work Not Separate from Learning
FEBRUARY 20, 2008
I mentioned quite a while ago (in Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion and Personal Work and Learning Environments ) that: Knowledge work is not separate from learning. Yes, there are times that Knowledge Workers will step away from day-to-day activities to go do developmental learning activities that may not be directly related to their day-to-day knowledge work. To me, it does not make sense to look at using one environment (an LMS or PLE) as part of learning and another environment as part of knowledge work.

However, one thing that was very interesting to find in the discussions is that I feel there is a gap between these patterns for using SharePoint and the idea of helping concept workers address the Knowledge Worker Skill Gap and begin to be able to work and learner better. Possibly its smarter use of Outlook that's the intent from a Microsoft vision of supporting the knowledge worker. I've been having fabulous conversations about using SharePoint. In my post SharePoint Examples there are some great examples in the comments. These would be external consituents.
Corporate Learning Long Tail and Attention Crisis

The average knowledge worker has access to an increasingly large set of information resources and corporate learning is an ever smaller part of this set. Cost is most often not a factor in a knowledge workers decision about the use of information. Focus on Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion and Personal Work and Learning Environments.
Learned about Learning in 2009
DECEMBER 14, 2009
Knowledge Work Skills / Work Literacy Having realized in 2007 that there's a very important Knowledge Worker Skill Gap , I felt the need in 2008 to find ways to help knowledge workers and organizations build skills like Leveraging Networks , Network Feedback , Finding Expertise , Using Social Media to Find Answers to Questions , Learning through Conversation and searching, scanning, etc. Each of these allowed me to fast forward my learning and share knowledge effectively. It’s very powerful stuff and an important extension to my PWLE. Work Event?
