The system has come a long way – and that is a good thing, with a nice UI and components including mobile learning. For retail shops I like the unique feature tied to OJT (on the job training). They understand the value of selling to training providers and clients going B2B. As such, this feature is solid.

The biggest market in size and scope are LMSs (Learning Management Systems). The second market in size are LEP/LXPs – Learning Engagement Platforms/Learning Experience Platforms. A training management system for example, would slide under learning platforms, same as a training operations system.

I have found that many salespeople themselves have no idea what those words actually mean, let alone why e-learning was created in the first place or an LMS or even what machine learning (which vendors dub as AI) is only as the data sets it was trained on. Learning Systems – I like this, but that?

Vendors who still do NOT understand that L&D is different than Training; and yes, Training as a department does exist. . At one time, they were a good system, Top 20 to be quite honest, but those days are gone. I am still at a loss on why people buy SuccessFactors for learning. .

Now, if you want employee learning only, and you go to a vendor who only does customer training, then the initial “use case” rejection (politely) is understandable. Ditto if you want employee learning for retail operations and talk to a vendor who only works with associations. Or you want your students to learn.
