On the other hand, most learning experiences begin with learning objectives which provide the learner no mystery or intrigue or suspense. They give you the answer “You will learn 3 things about…” The learning objectives tell the learner what to expect. They are not engaging.

Challenge : As the game-based learning expert James Paul Gee has said, good games give players a set of challenging problems and let them solve those problems until they can do it automatically. It draws in the learner and provides motivation.

I find this in the e-learning I review, it tends to be page turning boring stuff which is dis-engaged from the learning process. We tend to decontextualize learning. Without practice in training or learning, nothing sticks! Game elements add the context to the learning process.
