Why wouldn't you use Twitter?! I've only been actively participating on Twitter for 4-5 months now. I tweet (as @stickylearning ) mainly about learning related topics and follow people who also have learning as their main focus. Twitter keeps me current. Twitter makes me better at my job. on Twitter.

The Village of Twitter

In an earlier post on Informal Learning I made the observation that social networks allow people to create their own villages of learning. Education and learning followed a similar path, larger schools and prescribed curriculum. Schools, universities and formal learning have been undoubted successes.

Marty Neumeier's book has had me coming back to re-read bits of it time and time again and has definitely influenced how I view design in learning. I think this should be a must read for anyone involved in learning! 2 Delivering E-Learning. Like it or not powerpoint and other slideware is used in many learning environments.

I just twittered a thought - 'The benefit of Informal learning is that fish are the last to recognise water' - and then I started thinking. This is the real essence of informal learning. People become so engrossed in what they are doing that they don't see that they are learning - until they have learnt (if this makes sense?)

Let's get to the point, I went to the conference primarily because of sessions keynotes and workshops on the use of social media in learning - a real interest of mine. (as Doesn't Twitter aid learning? I know that Tweeting helped me learn more at the conference. I learn every time new information and ideas enter my head.

Another year comes towards to an end and its been another year of great reading for anyone with an interest in learning. Once again I have read from a wide range of areas, all with something to add to how I think of learning. Businesses and indeed learning uses both these approaches, bonuses for performance, A+ for excellence etc.
