It is over.  A big expo with several LMS vendors along with a few HR focused vendors who had a “learning component” to their systems. Lots of interesting stuff happening over in the HR space, but this analysis is all about our beloved e-learning and thus wonderful LMS flying machines (anyone see that movie? SumTotal by Skillsoft. trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success. I am seeing many vendors whose products were built for SMB (and more aligned on the lower side of mid size companies) who are now pushing into the mid/upper mid to large size customer band.   The problem here is that they developed a solution that is not made for 10,000 or more end users. In 2009 and 2010, many vendors in the LMS market, tossed in items that at one time were extra fees. Mobile Learning and Tablets. Learning 24/7.

Enough of that, let’s hit the analysis. I was enthralled to see more e-learning products than in past shows. Even with products that are typically classroom based – some were including mobile learning capabilities. If I was to place an estimate on it – it would 50% e-learning.  I suspect it will go up more in 2014. Sales training – It was huge, especially with mobile learning and gamification products.  Learning Management Systems – I expect to see more next year, but this year was solid. Learning 24/7. EXTRA!

Well, a lot has been happening in the past three months, from SaaS driven to talent management to course authoring to name changes and everything in between.  Without further adieu, Talent Management/Performance Management (TM/PM). Three months ago, only a few systems had either integrated for no additional charge or for additional fees, a talent management/performance management feature set.
