After struggling for a couple of days trying to get an old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver Extension Manager to install an old version of CourseBuilder on a Windows 7 machine, I came across this article in the Microsoft help system. Most programs written for Windows Vista also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run poorly or not at all. If a program written for an earlier version of Windows doesn't run correctly, you can try changing the compatibility settings for the program, either manually or by using the Program Compatibility troubleshooter.”

Microsoft Word converted to Flash? Macromedia Authorware and similar products. Macromedia Director. The Macromedia set typically would toss in Director, which created an equally impressive array of course capabilities, but a deep learning curve. Eventually, Macromedia Dreamweaver came into the picture.  As the evolution of e-learning continues, the rapid content authoring tools (RCAT) market follows suit. This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. Is it PowerPoint converted to Flash? That was then. Lectora.

With the acquistion of MacroMedia it looks like Adobe will be leaping into the collaboration space even more quickly. The statement from the Adobe press release this morning says "The combination of Adobe and Macromedia strengthens our mission of helping people and organizations communicate better. So it will be interesting to see if Adobe either: spins off a collaboration company or business unit from the combination of Breeze, FCS and PDF, or if they will choose to integrate these three technologies into an offering that might even challenge Microsoft.
