If you can prohibit learners from upgrading to the new operating system until your team can test, that can save you a big headache.

The first Dell runs XP, the second Dell runs Vista Home Premium and the I need to upgrade the MacBook to Leopard. Now, if after upgrading it still stinks. I also have a shiny new Dell XPS M1710 laptop for evaluating apps that I cant install on my first computer because we cant have admin rights to those.
