Back then, you needed to know how to create a browser sniffer because Sun was fighting Microsoft over Java, and thus Netscape who had Java, a course had to be designed differently than one for folks using Microsoft IE (which stunk IMO). PowerPoint is not an authoring tool. I did it explicitly for WBT (web-based training).

But for me the PowerPoint add-in approach to authoring is an uncomfortable compromise. Yes, you have the familiar PowerPoint interface but all the interactive elements are completely separate and never quite integrate as you'd like. If you use PowerPoint, I strongly recommend you don’t. I never did a storyboard and stuff like that. Thus, ignore ADDIE unless you are an instructional designer/developer who still thinks storyboards and other stuff are a must. Let’s say you are creating a course on how to use Microsoft Word.
