already have spoke ad naseum about the pros and cons of any free open source platform, so my criteria on what I feel are the best 10 free open source systems are presented below. The reason I state “free” open source, is because “open source” itself is not necessarily free. I’m not talking about your customization of it, rather that with some companies they charge for you to use their open source code. Hence, the word “free” All the systems below are 100% free open source systems.

Click on the app and your default browser opens and off you go. As I often say to folks, what is the point of having an app, if all it does is open up my browser. LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence. Actually it already has with some end users. I have seen continued interest and downloads for open source AR tool kits. Augmented reality opens those doors. Open source toolkits already exist, so I am projecting an increased use with education and businesses who have the tech folks in house to build such apps. It would not surprise me, if a vendor or two develop partnerships with AR houses to build, nor create AR apps using open source toolkits.

To me, each one of them does a lot of different things, but learning is a secondary, not primary. . I say this, and you can see it yourself, buy seeing all the modules available. Talk to many of them privately and they will say that most folks buy two modules out of the gate. Then there are other vendors not on this list, they utilize modules. Not everyone gets in. Everyone is considered.

Go back a decade or more and check out the number of systems that offered modules you could add to your system. Just as it was back then, most modules were actually in the system but turned off. When you bought the module it was turned on. What Modules are being seen today as they were back in the early 200os? Modules in 2012. Widgets or Gadgets (as a module). Web conferencing module. The average Moodle-based LMS contains an average of 125 elearning courses, and these are only the registered modules so it’s a conservative estimate. Problem: Large portions It’s not unusual to have modules of 45 minutes, 1 hour or even longer, but large portion sizes may not be the best for learners. Choice is normally a good thing but too much can lead to problems.
