What does the 80's movie WarGames tell us about learning games?
FEBRUARY 19, 2012
recently watched the 1980's movie WarGames with my son. As a dad, I often use movies like that as an opportunity to teach something new to my son. The movie is about a young computer hacker, played by Mathew Broderick , who unwittingly accesses a NORAD supercomputer controlling United States military nuclear weapons during the Cold War. As a child in 1983 I was captivated by the science and drama of the movie. Lesson 1: Games can be used to simulate real work environment situations. by Jonathan Shoaf. Of course, I explained that things were not that simple.

What is eLearning Gamification?
DECEMBER 4, 2013
You know you have become an eLearning nerd when watching a movie all you think about is gamification and instructional design. During the movie Ender plays and interacts with a variety of game simulations and interactive graphics. They have a simulation room. My version was in Adobe Flash and not in a hypoxia chamber. I had to simulate the activity. But first….

The Right Time for Learning
JULY 18, 2016
Your most effective learning tool isn’t a tricked-out, technology-rich smart classroom or a snazzy, high-powered simulation. As any student of Buddhist philosophy or fan of kung fu movies will tell you, an old saying captures the essence of true learning: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Your most important learning investment isn’t the LMS. Learning Delivery
The psychology of gamification in education: why rewards matter for learner engagement.
OCTOBER 30, 2015
We all know it is there, and that clearly millions of people love gaming, but video games just don’t seem to get everyone excited in the same way that, say, movies do. The reality is that the video game (gamification) industry is twice the size of the movie industry and three times the size of the music industry, going on 2013 figures.
