We were prompted to visit Blue Kiwi , which is probably the leading European social media platform. Mzinga is clearly targeted at the learning space, being integrated with an LMS. Vignette , on the other hand, started as a CMS for KM, but then added social media around it.

My ongoing question has been about transitioning from wrapping social networking around formal learning to being members of communities of practice. So, I could see that the completion of a course augmented with social networking activity could include an introduction to the larger practitioner community.

Niche social communities, within their own system, i.e. one general FB page or perhaps using a combination of other social networking sites with various features that may not exist on FB; and then a social networking feature geared towards only HR people or IT people, or job roles, etc. No need to have a LMS.

Within 20 weeks of implementing their social network: Adoption surpassed 25K users Over 2,100 groups were formed across practices, communities of interest, competencies, etc. I would add that Mzinga is another elearning company on this chart, in addition to Saba. Drupal is called “community plumbing&# for a reason.
