LMSs that kick ass: Mzinga

Janet Clarey

Mzinga is the result of a merger between KnowledgePlanet and Shared Insights at the end of 2007. My more recent contact at Mzinga is Dave Wilkins. I’m a more recent reader of Dave’s blog and occasionally have conversations with him in Twitter. spoke with Dave via email about what Mzinga is doing with social media. Q: What social media tools is Mzinga incorporating into their LMS? A: Dave Wilkins - Mzinga has taken a comprehensive approach to social learning by developing three models throughout various components of our entire Social Learning Suite.

Product Review: Mzinga OmniSocial

eLearning 24-7

Twitter based support available M-F 8 a.m. Software simulation tool (Firefly) and Mzinga Publisher are extra, i.e. there is an additional cost – it is not automatically included in the OmniSocial product.  It would be nice if Mzinga listed these two offerings with the wording of “additional or add-on cost&# on their web site. You can do this either through ILinc directly or through MzingaMzinga does not offer any type of free trial with their system.  What is it? I say to myself. OmniSocial can be a standalone, or be integrated with your LMS.

MZinga - Engaged in the conversation!

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

The Twitter Channel picked up 34 followers which is about 32 more than I expected. MZINGA created a "set" of 20 images capturing their event experience. How cool is that! I did not get a chance to see the MZINGA booth, I was not able to attend their session, and I did not talk with any of the workers on site. mZinga is a social media company and they understand the power of the medium. While I did not meet Mzinga at the show, every time I go check out the PageFlakes page, I am reminded of mzinga because "BANG" there are the picks in the Flickr feed box.

New Authoring tool rankings #11 to #20

eLearning 24-7

Easy to use interface and supports SCORM and AICC. #18 Mzinga Publisher - Holy macaroni! (No reason, I just love saying that) Mzinga shows up with a true social learning authoring tool. A few vendors say “social learning” but it is often far from it. Twitter widget within product. Added bonus – supports Mac OS too, and has an app in the Mac store.  No idea.)

eLearning User Groups

eLearning Weekly

It’s an online discussion that happens each Thursday on Twitter. Mzinga. Twitter. Last week I went to the Metrics That Matter user group in Chicago. During my trip, I started thinking about user groups related to learning and technology. Other than conferences, where do learning and technology professionals get together to discuss ideas with each other? Conferences are great; I attend them and present at them on a fairly regular basis. But too often these events are more focused on presentations than collaboration and idea sharing. came up with a list of ideas below.

Rapid (Collaborative) Authoring Tools for developers/SMEs in multiple locations

Janet Clarey

After looking at the Authoring Tool KnowledgeBase I went to my LinkedIn and Twitter network. Mzinga Publisher. I’ve been slicing and dicing our Authoring Tool KnowledgeBase and doing some online research in response to a question about collaborative rapid authoring tools that developers in multiple locations can use. Immediately heard back from two people. gotta love crowdsourcing ). My methodology: Rapid = Tool designed for SME with no page design, authoring, or programming experience (this doesn’t exclude tools with additional functionality for advanced users).

Will Boomers Tweet?

Learning on the Leading Edge

At our recent IMPACT conference, we encouraged attendees to provide live commentary on the event as it happened via blogs and Twitter; that meant rapid typing on laptops and mobile devices during presentations. I did my fair share of Twittering. Overall, I would say out attempt at getting the attendees to join in the blogging and Twittering less than successful. Director of Product Strategy at Mzinga called out the demographics of our attendees as the reason for the lack of such web 2.0 and enterprise 2.0 tools, is to be highly skeptical. Download it here. David.

Micro-blogging – similar to Twitter, again learners in the system can “followers&# other learners, see their micro blog posts, and their friends can respond.
