I’ve been using Twitter for a number of weeks now, and that, combined with several recent social networking activities prompted this reflection. Twitter is a different story; described as micro-blogging, it’s more immediate, more a pointer. And Ning’s quite interesting too.Â

Twitter adoption is higher than I would have thought. delicious, Picassa, Ning, Google Docs/Google Apps, Second Life, Blogger, iGoogle, orkut, FriendFeed, Internal workplace community, PBWiki, Xing, Digg, Friendster (really?), But we clearly missed an opportunity to ask about community tools like Ning.

I have been part of Ning groups before, but find it overwhelming, very quickly because there seems to be multiple inputs for information. Even as an organizer, when I get into the Ning group, I feel overwhelmed. I don't know about ning or even facebook. Social networks have a tendency to be a bit messy.

At the same time, Marcia Conner was asking for examples of how someone’s Twitter/Facebook (T/FB) comments have changed your opinion of them. Blogs tend to be more formal (tends, mind you), while Twitter and Facebook cross the boundary into informal. And maybe then not worthy of being called communities?
