If you wanted the LMS vendor to host their LMS on their own servers, you could – thus 100% online.

Some vendors will place the B2B on a separate server, thus the parent and all their children sit on a standalone server and not on one server with all the other clients, although each client has its own silo. I identify the Big Dogs as SumTotal by Skillsoft (yes, that is the actual name), Cornerstone OnDemand, Saba, SucessFactors and Oracle Taleo (although, I ask myself who is using this and if you still are why?). Case in point: IMO one of the worst UI’s I have ever seen comes from Cornerstone OnDemand, which is quite popular. A: If the LMS is available only as a hosted solution – as on your company’s own servers – it may not. Q: Do the more expensive systems have better UI (user interface)? A: Absolutely not.

From there, you can now inquire with the vendor if they are doing something above and beyond what the server site offers and includes. Ask someone to name a few LMSs or at least one, and I suspect it will be Cornerstone OnDemand or SumTotal. People either love or hate Cornerstone OnDemand, SumTotal Learn, Saba, SuccessFactors.
