Last year, speaking to a conference of aviation trainers, John Alonso, CTO, OutStart , observed that ninety percent of mobile learning pilot projects he is aware of have failed. The part of the paper that resonated with me was the definition of the two contrasting approaches – a standard “tool view” approach vs. a sociotechnical approach.

If a slide presentation is difficult to read on a standard computer monitor, it can certainly prove unreadable when viewed on a smaller mobile screen. No offense to my colleagues who are OD (organizational development) folks, but the thought of having training under OD is nothing short of armageddon by training standards. They purchased Outstart, a LMS. Right now, there are training executives across the world screaming at such a statement. What about Kenexa? They are a HCM.
