The biggest “sale” of all was that “Training drives performance!” They bought our shtick and internalized it to the point that anything that even smelled like performance issues meant training was the solution. Joining up competencies and performance data with learning opportunities. But it does depend on one key thing – the competency and performance data must be accurate, consistent and up-to-date for the system to work effectively. To meet these challenges, it’s not really the LMS that is changing, but the role it plays in a wider learning and corporate ecosystem. Somehow that investment needs to be recouped. This is not atypical. | | | | | | | | | -
CLIVE ON LEARNING | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 Four roles for social media in workplace learning I write this as I travel to Birmingham to participate in a panel discussion with Nick Shackleton-Jones and Robin Hoyle on the role of social media in learning. The discussion forms part of the agenda for the World of Learning Conference, an event that I have enjoyed participating in for something like ten years now. Anyway, this post provides me with an opportunity to clarify my thoughts in preparation for the discussion. There is no question whatsoever that social media is transforming our personal and business lives. MORE >> -

THE LEARNING CIRCUITS BLOG | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2012 What will your training role be in the future? After sitting in on a training professional competencies focus group at TechKnowledge 2012, I became more inspired than ever to think about the role that learning and development professionals can look forward to in the future. One thing seems nearly certain—as time passes, the role of the training professional and instructional designer will be transformed. This is why various titles for our new role are being suggested, such as "Learning Experience Designer" and "Learning Architect" (see review of Clive Shepherd's book, The New Learning Architect ). ROAD TO LEARNING | SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, 2011 The New Age Instructional Designer The role of an instructional designer is essentially driven by a need to find appropriate solutions by applying instructional design strategies and models to transfer information to users who use a particular product or service to perform their jobs.
