Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) do exactly what they say on the can - they are personal to each individual, created by them, owned by them, used by them within their lifelong learning. Some argued strongly for sole student ownership, vehemently opposed to any institutional meddling in a personal learning environment. What does a PLE look like? Web 2.0

Everyone of us has individual needs and personal requirements. These become personal windows on the world, enabling them to drill down and investigate for themselves, the finer details of content they need to learn. Thus, few traditional publishers are ready for the leap to personalization.

The personal learning environment (PLE) is still a bone of contention. What is interesting about Ismael's model is the way he incorporates the ZPD into a general model of the PLE, and argues that in fact, both MKOs and ZPD can constitute a PLE. For me, the PLE is peculiar to the individual who makes it. His article can be accessed here in its entirety.

But is it really that deeply personal? For me this resonates clearly with the tension between the provision of Content Management Systems (what we commonly call institutional VLEs) and personal learning environments (PLEs). So let's apply this to personal learning environments by translating the 5 levels into an education context. I'm not sure why.) But wait. It becomes yours.

Monday, June 11, 2007 Personalization does not equal Personal Ive been catching up this morning on all the recent PLE posts, particularly Tom Haskins recent entries. He reveals the thinking about PLEs inside the financial services industry: (A PLE/Education Portfolio owned by the learner) also requires a means for the learner to accept updates to their PLE, made by people providing training, so the student has a verified training record, verified qualifications and ce points/hours or other measurement." But that does not equal a Personal Learning Environment.

Personal Learning Environments - A personal learning environment (PLE) is not just a technology, but also an approach/process that is designed with the individual in mind, and therefore different from one learning to another. It certainly is an exciting time to be involved with learning and technology. Virtual learning environments are one example of cloud computing.

There has been a lot of talk recently about PLEs (Personal Learning Environments) and everyone it seems, wants to know what they are, what they contain, or if they will replace current institutional VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) or LMS (Learning Management System) provision. No one seems to be able to agree on what a PLE is. This, however, is more than a practical issue.

The personal web by contrast, moves along lightly at the pace of its users, being directed as changes and personal needs dictate. The personal web is on the rise.
