They understand the value of selling to training providers and clients going B2B. The user interface is slick – way better than the days of Plateau – which some people still call it – uh, its not. Another big win – multi-tenant (extended enterprise). For employee size though I see them small to mid size.

True, HR at some companies provide “training”, but I have found it is always better to have the two entities as separate departments. Oracle then followed suit by acquiring SuccessFactors who had acquired Plateau in the past. Please note : I personally find great benefit in HCMs and the capabilities they provide.

One competitor purchased a VLP as a key component, SAP purchased SuccessFactors, a recruiting system initially turned HCM, who had acquired Plateau, a strong but awful UI/UX LMS. SuccessFactors constantly stated they would invest heavily into Plateau and initially, vast improvement was to be found.

I viewed a SuccessFactors presentation – put on by the company to me and saw that they listed their platform as a human capital management system (it appeared on a slide). . I say this, because when I talked to them, I was provided with different responses to what they were (i.e. Maybe, you own a Plateau Systems Rocks T-Shirt, and thus you just can’t toss it in the heap and move on. . Add a use case, provide some basics, and start the conversation. They are definitely not an LMS.

At one time a true freebie – they still offer a stripped down version, their new fee based system provides enough oomph to make anyone go “Wow” Features include: The standards – i.e. my 90/10, whereas 90% of the features are the same in the majority of systems in the space. Drilling down, will provide you with additional information you need to ask and know, and as a result, even when looking at a potential vendor’s site, you will be able to see what they offer in this area. It is the same assumption that unless you buy one of the Big Dogs – Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, etc., That is so wrong. .

Plateau Talent Management System. Vendors nowadays provide training early on after you get the product, and then assume that the person will remember everything weeks later. And I equally agree that many authoring tool vendors do not provide tutorials on how to build a course (not just how to use their software). I mean it screams Plateau and Knowledge Planet. At a simple level, use ADDIE, it is a starting point, and even today many ID folks utilize it in some fashion. Buy a book (e-book works). .
